[ devastated that wriothesley wouldn't care about pushing essek any which way while i, val, am deeply invested in his love life. ]
But that does seem to be the best way to go about things rather than forcing them.
[ anyway, time to go try on these toe rings. please hold while he goes to find one of those awkward little stools to sit on so he can remove his shoes. ]
[VAL. HELP ME. Everyone is just going to end up disappointed because he's too slow burn.]
I simply feel it is inconsiderate to throw yourself into a person you have only just met. There is no depth yet. Kisses seem superficial, anything more seems... a dishonor to the other person.
[Unfortunately for Wriothesley, he turns his head to watch the man go about trying on the toe rings. In case he needs help, not because Essek likes feet.]
[ but does essek like feet? anyway, his feet are fine. normal guy feet, which actually means they're probably not fine since (most) guys don't take care of their feet, but at least they are clean and the nails are trimmed.
this is more detail than i ever thought i would be putting into his feet. ]
Not even if the attraction is mutual and you were both interested? Not everything has to end in a committed relationship.
[HE DOESN'T LIKE FEET, STOP THIS. I guess he probably thinks his own feet are kind of cute, but he does not like feet. Thank you for having decent feet, though, Wriothesley. It is a plus in Essek's book.]
I see no point in it then. Frankly, I never really saw a point in any of it, something casual, or something committed. It creates... risk, distraction. I have since become... slightly more open-minded to the idea perhaps.
[ does he really need help if he's just sticking these rings willy-nilly onto his feet? probably. at least he's putting them on toes that fit so they don't randomly slide off. ]
Such as Mr. Aventurine? You were with him in the last game, yes?
[ they can gossip about aventurine if that will make him feel better. ]
[ time to get hei into the gy so jacopo can explain this very important concept. ]
Why, you interested?
[ just kidding.....he fiddles with his toe rings a little while he thinks, and it is a serious answer he gives when he finally gives one. ]
Someone with a strong sense of justice. Someone who stands by their ideals. Someone who sees others for who they are rather than what benefit or use they can provide.
[ good thing there's nothing romantic about trying on toe rings. wriothesley's in the middle of pulling off one of said toe rings to see if it'll look better on a different toe (it won't) when he just gets attacked. don't just say you're interested in getting to know someone like that. ]
Even with the murder accusations? [ what accusations, they're real. ] I'm flattered, but I suspect there are more worthy contenders for your attention out there.
[Well, don't tease him by asking if he's interested then.]
Do you really think you're talking to someone who hasn't murdered...? [Also, he knows some murderers.] You've changed, I can tell. [That's the interesting part. Because he's changed, too.] I admire that is all.
In the same way there are more interesting people here to be curious about?
Yes, well, most changed murderers don't live at the bottom of the ocean. [ he needs to prove he is unworthy. ] I can't very well subject a significant other to that, now can I?
[He has come over, and he puts his hand on Wriothesley's arm, to stop it a moment.]
You don't have to add too many. One on each foot is fine, even one on one foot.
[Don't force it.]
The Dungeon of Penance was underground in the Shadowshire below the city for that reason. Magic has been put on it to distort the paths so no one can find their way out unless they know dunamancy.
He was a halfling and an alchemist. He had been captured because he had been working with the Cerberus Assembly and experimenting on one of the stolen beacons.
It was my job to pull information out of him with any means necessary.
The Mighty Nein came looking for him, and I learned he was the husband of one of them. His release, however, depended on the information, and he finally explained what the Assembly had been after. So I released him.

no subject
More open-minded, huh? Because of people you've met along the way?
[ tell him the hot goss while he slides these rings on. ]
no subject
I suppose.
[He browses the jewelry, but glances occasionally at Wriothesley in case the man needs help.]
Seeing it happen to others in different ways. Feelings change when you grow closer to people.

[ they can gossip about aventurine if that will make him feel better. ]
no subject
You don't have to put a lot. It's good if you skip some toes, otherwise the jewelry will rub.
[Just some pointers.]
Yes, he was one, I guess. There were others, too. Are you interested in Aventurine?
no subject
Aventurine? No, I'm not. Even if he wasn't taken, he's not my type.
[ because they are way too similar. ]
no subject
[Jacopo apparently needs to explain to Wriothesley what poly is. Aventurine can still be taken... Nehan isn't here, though.]
What is your type then?
[Only because Wriothesley and others have been so damn nosy about his own life and love life for some reason.]
no subject
Why, you interested?

And if I had been? You are not a bad man so far, but I would rather get to know you better before considering anything like that.
[Does this make Essek romantic? He has to become wooed. Idk.]
I only thought it fair since you seem to ask me all of the questions. Those are some admirable qualities to want in someone.

I'm a fugitive. Hiding from both a dynasty and a collective of powerful mages. I wouldn't want to subject anyone to that either.
[You stupid fruit. We're all the same.]
You live at the bottom of the ocean...?
no subject
Presumably you won't be a fugitive forever. Though if you ever find yourself in Fontaine still on the run, I'd be happy to house you in the Fortress.
[ why is that name so edgy. ]
And I do. Though I've considered relocating.
no subject
[THE NAME!!!!]
You underestimate the relentless persistence of both my country and the assembly of mages.
Is there a logistical reason it's in the ocean?
no subject
[ just says this casually as he pulls off the second toe ring. maybe a different foot...? ]
no subject
[He has come over, and he puts his hand on Wriothesley's arm, to stop it a moment.]

no subject
Something like that. I have spent most of my life in the Fortress by now.
[ but who cares about that! ]
Did anyone ever leave your Dungeon after a suitable amount of penance?
no subject
It sounds as if you had been incarcerated yourself.
[PEOPLE CARE.]
The majority didn't. Though... a while back, I did release someone. A husband.
no subject
[ (b99 voice) cool motive, still murder. ]
But tell me about the person you released.
no subject
[He's teasing.]

You make it sound as though you don't release people very often. Or was he just that special?
